Essential Balance

Energy Medicine

balanced-stones-raked-sandHumans are mind-body-spirit beings. In the holistic paradigm, according to renown medical intuitive, Carolyn Myss, “the ‘energy’ level of the human being, meaning “the inner emotional and spiritual world, precedes, and in fact determines, all that is experienced at the physical level.” The energetic template for the body is known by many names. Some call it the “human energy field,” “luminous energy field,” “aura,” or simply the “energy body.” Within the energy body reside imprints of trauma, past and future disease, unresolved emotional issues, and other “dense energies” that can block our wellbeing. In a nutshell, energy healing involves the release of dense heavy energies, and the integration of vital energies of the soul, facilitating return to the natural state of essential balance.

Some of my influences and training include:

I’ve studied Energy Medicine with Alberto Villoldo and Linda Fitch at The Four Winds Society. Alberto has adapted the traditional healing methods of the descendants of the ancient Inka shaman of Peru. The word medicine, as used in this sense, means “anything that improves one’s connection to the Great Mystery and to all life. This would include the healing of body, mind, and of spirit. This medicine is also anything that brings personal power, strength and understanding.” However, it’s not a substitute for traditional medicine. If you’re experiencing any physical symptoms, you are advised to consult a physician and seek medical care.

The word “shaman” comes from the Siberian word meaning “one who sees in the dark.” As such, a shaman works with the energetic or spiritual, i.e, invisible, roots of dis-ease focusing on healing more so than on “cure.” Correcting energy imbalances, and removing stagnant, dark and heavy energy, a shaman aims to remove the root cause of disease from a person’s energy field (sometimes before it has manifested as a physical illness).  A shaman acts as a kind of intermediary to help you release energies that are not serving you and to recover the vital energies of your soul.

I’m also a Reiki Master Teacher of the Usui Reiki System of Natural Healing. Reiki is a very gentle, but profound, healing practice that accelerates the body’s natural healing processes, supports mental, emotional and soul level healing, and gives an overall sense of profound well-being. It is a hands-on healing method whereby the practitioner channels universal life force energy to the recipient helping to remove energetic imbalances and blocks. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk, developed the Reiki system of natural healing in the early 20th century. Reiki is transmitted by masters to initiates through an attunement, or sacred energy initiation, that opens and connects the recipient to the Reiki energies. In addition to incorporating Reiki in healing sessions, I offer group and private Reiki initiation and training.

I’m also inspired by the practices of qi gong, an internal energy cultivation practice and ancient health art that is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and tai chi, an internal martial art. Special techniques from both of these ancient arts can be used to cultivate qi, or life force energy.  I recently traveled to China to study Classical Northern Wu Style Tai Ji Quan with the oldest living master of that lineage.  Here are some pictures of me in China practicing Tai Ji sword form:

Favorite Quotes on Healing

In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy.”- Albert Szent Gyorgi, Nobel Laureate in Medicine

True healing is nothing less than an awakening to a vision of our healed nature and the experience of infinity.” - Alberto Villoldo

“Healing is ultimately a mystical experience and not one that is generated by the force or determination of the power of the mind. By “mystical,” I’m referring to experiences that require grace in order to transcend the barriers of our minds, which are so often weighed down by the need to know why things happen as they do in our lives.” - Carolyn Myss

“True healers know that wellness is the order of the day, so they do not allow themselves, even for a moment, to see anything other than that. So, the power of the healer is in the power to influence the one who needs to be healed into a vibration that allows the healing that they are summoning (that they could get, even without the healer, but they can get faster with a healer’s influence).” - Abraham (Jerry and Esther Hicks)

“Energy medicine is the art and science of fostering physical, psychological, and spiritual health and well being.” - Donna Eden
